Who published these records
Eight public sources, what each one publishes and what it does not, and how the evidence score reads them. ConsumerLab is not one of them: its reviews are paywalled, and nothing here is estimated from them.
The eight sources
Choosing one opens its page: every bottle it names, what it says its program checks, and the filters.
- Labdoor51 scored products. Assay numbers when the review page or certificate prints them, with the lot and the test date when printed.
- FDA / openFDA1 recall. A recall: its number, class, status, dates, firm, lots and the reason in the agency’s words.
- USP6 scored products. That a finished product is currently USP Verified.
- NSF Certified for Sport1,993 directory names. A directory listing: the product name and the company.
- Informed Sport1,843 directory names. A directory listing on the October 2026 certified list.
- Informed Choice848 directory names. A directory listing on the October 2026 certified list.
- BSCG673 directory names. A directory listing, sometimes with the lot it names.
- Nutrasource806 directory names. A directory listing in the public catalog.
How the evidence score works
Rubric-1 is a pure function of the stored rows. Missing is unscored, never zero and never filled in; weights are not moved to cover a hole.
Rubric-1
100 points in six parts| Part | Points | How it is scored |
|---|---|---|
| Recency of measured results | 20 | The newest measured result from a non-manufacturer sponsor: 24 months or newer 20, 25 to 48 months 14, 49 to 84 months 8, older or undated 4. Certification alone does not fill it. |
| Independent sources | 15 | Distinct non-manufacturer organizations: one 6, two 11, three or more 15. Manufacturer certificates do not count. |
| Result against the label | 25 | Scored only when one source prints a measurement and a label claim, or a pass or fail against its own stated criterion. No remembered 90 to 110 percent window. |
| Method transparency | 15 | Measured results only: a named method with the lab and the date 15, with the lab or date missing 10, a grade or “third-party tested” with no method 4. |
| Certification, capped | 15 | USP Verified 15, NSF contents, NSF Certified for Sport or Informed Sport 12, Informed Choice 9. Stacking never passes 15; expired is unscored, not a penalty. |
| Failure and warning | 10 | Counts only after a completed enforcement lookup. A recall, a safety alert or a source-stated assay failure scores 0 and flags the bottle. Not looked up: unscored. |
Reading the two figures
The evidence score is the points earned over the points the record let us score. Coverage is how many points that was, out of 100. A score of 100 on 10% coverage is a thin record, not a winner; neither figure is a lab grade.
BSCG, IFOS and IPRO add no certification points. A manufacturer’s certificate of analysis never counts as independent. Labdoor grades stay grade-only. FDA recalls stay enforcement actions. USP numerical limits are not applied unless a free page was retrieved and cited.
