What the anxiety studies show
In people with social anxiety, 600 mg of CBD before a simulated speech reduced anxiety. In healthy volunteers, 300 mg worked while lower and higher doses did not, an inverted U.[1][2][3]
A 4-week trial in 37 teenagers with social anxiety used 300 mg a day and found lower anxiety scores than placebo.[4]
CBG: one 2024 crossover trial in 34 adults found 20 mg lowered self-rated anxiety and stress versus placebo.[5]
Typical "calm" products contain 10–50 mg CBD per serving, below the doses that worked in trials. CBD is not a substitute for care for an anxiety disorder.
How to choose a calm product
Check the CBD per serving, whether it adds THC (several "calm" products do), and whether the COA covers contaminants. If you take an antidepressant, a benzodiazepine or any regular medicine, ask your prescriber first: CBD changes how the liver clears many drugs.[6]

Frequently asked questions
How much CBD for anxiety?
Studies that found a benefit used about 300 mg in a single dose or daily for 4 weeks. That is far more than most products provide per serving. Talk to a clinician before using doses like that.
Is CBD safe with antidepressants?
CBD inhibits liver enzymes that clear many antidepressants and anti-anxiety medicines. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist before combining them.
Does CBG work better than CBD for stress?
There is one small CBG trial (20 mg, 34 adults). It is too early to say it works better than CBD.
