NMN, NMNH or NR? ProHealth vs Momentous vs Onnit, compared per gram
NMN, NMNH and NR are all sold to raise NAD+, but their evidence and prices differ a lot. We lined up eight products from three brands and worked out what you pay per gram of the active ingredient.
Quick answer
- Evidence first: NMN has randomized trials showing higher blood NAD+ at 250–900 mg/day (grade B). NR raises NAD+ too (grade C for outcomes). NMNH has cell and animal data only (grade D).
- Cheapest NMN per gram: ProHealth Essentials NMN 1000 at about $1.33 per gram.
- Combination picks: Momentous Longevity pairs 500 mg Niagen NR with NAC, betaine and PQQ (NSF certified); Onnit NMN + Creatine adds 5 g creatine to 500 mg NMN.
- Effects on how you feel or perform are still modest and mixed; buy for the NAD+ evidence, not the marketing.

What the human research shows
- NMN: in a 60-day randomized trial of 80 healthy middle-aged adults, 300, 600 and 900 mg/day raised blood NAD+ dose-dependently, highest at 600 and 900 mg (PMID 36482258). In older men, 250 mg/day was well tolerated and raised NAD+ metabolites (PMID 35927255).
- NR: 1,000 mg/day (500 mg twice daily) raised blood NAD+ in healthy middle-aged and older adults and was well tolerated (PMID 29599478). Functional benefits have not been clearly shown.
- NMNH: a 2021 cell study found it raised NAD+ more strongly than NMN (PMID 33793246). We found no peer-reviewed human trial as of Oct 8, 2026.
How to choose
- Want the most evidence per dollar: NMN at 500–1,000 mg/day; the ProHealth Essentials line is the cheapest per gram here.
- Want a third-party sport certification: Momentous Longevity is NSF Certified for Sport (NR, not NMN).
- Already taking creatine: Onnit NMN + Creatine combines both in one packet.
- Curious about NMNH: think of it as an experiment until human data are published.
Safety notes
- NMN and NR were well tolerated in trials lasting up to a few months; long-term safety data are limited.
- Not for pregnancy or breastfeeding (no data). Check with your clinician if you take prescription medicines.
FAQ
Is NMN or NR better?
Both raise blood NAD+ in randomized trials. NMN has more recent dose-response data (250–900 mg/day); NR has well-known safety data at 1,000 mg/day. Neither has clearly shown functional benefits yet.
Is NMNH better than NMN?
In cells and mice NMNH raises NAD+ more strongly, but there is no peer-reviewed human trial yet. NMN is the evidence-first choice today.
How much NMN should I take?
Trials used 250–900 mg a day, with the largest NAD+ rise at 600–900 mg. Talk to your clinician before starting if you take prescription medicines.
