Best NMN Supplement? What the Label Can and Can't Tell You

No trial has compared one NMN product or delivery form with another. What you can compare is the dose per serving, what else is in the product, and how that lines up with the doses human trials actually tested.

Renue by Science LIPO NMN, liposomal capsules

from Renue by Science

Label: 250 mg NMN per liposomal capsule.

Best for regular use: $58.46 on subscription vs $64.95 one-time (checked Oct 15, 2026).

How we chose: Momentous is the partner brand we list first, so its product leads whenever the Where to buy list has one for this compound or a form in our Forms table. Otherwise, among partner brands that passed our vetting without conditions (others only when none sells it), the first product in that list whose name matches a form in our Forms table, else the first one listed. Not a claim that it works: check the amount per serving against the studied doses and limits on our NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) page.

Key takeaways

From 8 sources
  • No human trial in our sources compares NMN brands or delivery forms, so no product has shown better results than another2.
  • Human trials used 250 to 2,000 mg of NMN a day for 14 days to 24 weeks3.
  • At 300, 600 and 900 mg a day, NMN raised blood NAD versus placebo over 60 days in 80 adults4.
  • Pooled trials found no significant effect on blood sugar, insulin or cholesterol23.
  • FDA concluded on September 29, 2025 that NMN is not excluded from the supplement definition, and a lawsuit challenging that reversal is pending15.

Who should be careful

Long-term use
Trials lasted 24 weeks at most; long-term safety has not been established.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
No NMN trial in our sources enrolled pregnant or breastfeeding women. EFSA's 2026 safety opinion excluded them, and noted effects on reproductive organs in a 90-day rat study (no-effect level 400 mg/kg body weight a day).
Children
Human trials enrolled adults only, and EFSA's safety conclusion covers adults.
Regulatory note
FDA's acknowledgement of an NMN notification is procedural and is not a finding that NMN or products containing it are safe.

What to check on an NMN label

Since no trial ranks one NMN product above another2, the useful comparison is between the label and the doses that were studied. These are the details that matter most:

  • Milligrams of NMN per serving, and how many capsules, tablets or scoops make up that serving. Trials used 250 to 2,000 mg a day3.
  • How the daily amount compares with the trial doses: the 60-day trial that measured blood NAD used 300, 600 or 900 mg a day4.
  • Other ingredients. Some products pair NMN with creatine, resveratrol or other NAD precursors, while the pooled trials tested NMN against placebo23.
  • Batch testing documents, such as a certificate of analysis, which describe what a batch contained. They say nothing about whether the product works.

Capsule, liposomal, powder or sublingual?

NMN is sold as plain capsules, liposomal capsules, powders, sublingual tablets and gels. No study in our sources has compared these forms with each other in people, for NAD levels or for any health outcome2.

Claims that one delivery format absorbs better come from sellers. The trials that make up the human evidence were not designed to answer that question23.

How much NMN did trials use?

A 2026 meta-analysis of 15 trials covered doses from 250 to 2,000 mg a day and found no increase in adverse events or liver enzymes compared with placebo3. No trial ran longer than 24 weeks, so long-term safety is unknown3.

One manufacturer's notification to FDA set its intended intake at no more than 400 mg a day1. FDA acknowledging a notification is a procedural step, not a finding that a product is safe1.

What the trials found

In a 60-day trial of 80 middle-aged adults, blood NAD rose in all three NMN groups, and six-minute walking distance increased more than with placebo, most at 600 and 900 mg4.

A meta-analysis of 9 trials in middle-aged and older adults found a modest gain in gait speed and a small drop in the liver enzyme ALT6. For fasting glucose, insulin, HbA1c and blood lipids, a meta-analysis of 8 trials found no significant effect2.

The full evidence table is on the NMN page, and the outcomes are explained in does NMN work.

NMN or NR?

Nicotinamide riboside is the other widely sold NAD+ precursor. A 2025 meta-analysis pooled both against placebo rather than against each other, and found the evidence does not support either for preserving muscle in older adults7.

See NMN vs NR, the nicotinamide riboside page, or what an NAD blood test can show.

Before you buy

Talk to a pharmacist or clinician first if you take prescription medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic health condition3. A PubMed search run in October 2026 returned no human NMN drug-interaction studies8.

Quick answers

Common questions

4 answers
Which form of NMN absorbs best?

No study in our sources compared capsule, liposomal, powder and sublingual NMN in the same people2. Absorption claims for a particular format come from the companies selling it.

What dose of NMN did studies use?

Between 250 and 2,000 mg a day, for 14 days to 24 weeks3.

Is a higher NMN dose better?

In the 60-day trial, walking distance improved most at 600 and 900 mg a day, and the trial did not test anything above 900 mg4.

Is NMN the same as NAD+?

No. NMN is a precursor the body uses to make NAD+7.
