Trehalose trials recruiting now

2 registrations that name trehalose as a study arm and are recruiting or about to, as ClinicalTrials.gov listed them on Oct 20, 2026. Read each listing for its full criteria and current status.

Kymata never assesses eligibility. Each listing names its own criteria; only its study team can say whether someone can join. Trial doses are given under the trial's monitoring and are not a schedule for anyone outside it.

Role of Autophagy in Type 2 Diabetes Microvascular Dysfunction

  • Early phase 1
  • Medical College of Wisconsin
  • About 60 people
  • Started Jan 1, 2023

In plain words An early phase 1 study of trehalose in people 18 to 80, run by Medical College of Wisconsin. It plans to enroll about 60 people at 1 US site.

Who it lists and where

Who the trial lists, as registered

Lists people 18 to 80; healthy volunteers accepted. Conditions: Type 2 Diabetes; Healthy Aging.

  • Clinical Diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in accordance with American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines (Type 2 Diabetic group)
  • Otherwise healthy individuals (Healthy control group) with no more than 1 cardiovascular risk factor

The exclusion criteria are on the listing.

What it tests, as registered

Trehalose; Placebo

Registered summary

The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the role of autophagy on microvascular function in adults with Type 2 Diabetes. The main question it aims to answer are: * Does presence of Type 2 Diabetes reduce autophagy and impair microvascular function? * Does exposure to high glucose impair autophagy and subsequently microvascular function? Participants will undergo 2 study days. The primary outcome will be in vivo microvascular function testing. Following the first study day participants will undergo either supplementation with trehalose, an autophagy activator, or placebo for 14 days. The full summary is on the listing.

In plain words A Phase 1 and 2 study of trehalose in people 18 to 85, run by San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital. It plans to enroll about 40 people at 1 site, none in the US.

Who it lists and where

Who the trial lists, as registered

Lists people 18 to 85. Conditions: Crohn Disease (CD).

  • Male or female patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Crohn's disease (established according to clinical, endoscopic, histological, and radiological criteria in line with current Italian and European guidelines), with a stricturing…
  • Patients aged ≥18 and ≤85 years.
  • Patients either not receiving any specific immunomodulatory therapy for Crohn's disease or undergoing treatment with mesalazine or sulfasalazine.
  • Patients who have been adequately informed about the study protocol and who have understood and voluntarily signed the informed consent form.

The exclusion criteria are on the listing.

What it tests, as registered

Clostridum Butyricum Capsule; Trehalose

Registered summary

Crohn's disease is a condition of unknown etiology with an immune-mediated pathogenesis. The subgroup of Crohn's disease with a stricturing phenotype represents a particular challenge for clinicians, as currently no effective medical therapies are available for the prevention or treatment of fibrosis. Autophagy is a key mechanism in the regulation of cellular homeostasis, and preliminary reports from our group and others have suggested a potential role in the pathogenesis of fibrostenotic complications in Crohn's disease. The full summary is on the listing.
