Few other therapies exist for infants who are not making progress with feeding volumes at term age. To tackle this problem, we took the novel approach of pairing non-invasive nerve stimulation of the vagus nerve at the ear (taVNS) stimulation with the motor skills of feeding. Oral prednisolone for 28 days is the only treatment which has been proven to improve short-term survival over placebo in patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis. However, prednisolone alone cannot be regarded as an ideal treatment because some patients still have a bad outcome despite being treated with corticosteroids. Response to treatment can be predicted by the Lille score, a simple tool that is calculated after 7 days of prednisolone course. The full summary is on the listing.

Registered summary

Schizophrenia is a chronic debilitating psychotic disorder. Identifying persons with "clinical high-risk" (CHR) symptoms, which are like those of schizophrenia but less severe, and providing psychiatric care to these individuals has been shown to help prevent psychosis. Current medications used for CHR symptoms, however, are associated with substantial side effect burden. Therefore, practice guidelines do not recommend current medications as routine treatment for the CHR state, and there is a need to identify new treatments for this condition. Previous evidence suggests that though N-acetylcysteine (NAC) supplementation following eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage disrupts the skeletal muscle's repair and remodelling process at 8 days of recovery, it attenuates substantially the decline of skeletal muscle performance during the first 48 hours of recovery. The enhanced performance capacity during the first phase of recovery in response to NAC supplementation might be attributed to the altered redox status in skeletal muscle as a consequence of the NAC-mediated elevation of reduced glutathione (GSH) levels. What medical problems do participants have when taking NPI-001? Researchers will compare NPI-001 to a placebo (a look-alike substance that contains no drug) to see if NPI-001 works to preserve vision. The full summary is on the listing.

Registered summary

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if N-Acetylcysteine drug works to protect kidney function in adults patient with cancer. Kidney function will be measured by laboratory parameter using urine sample (KIM-1 urine) and blood sample (serum creatinine). The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Does N-Acetylcysteine lower the level of KIM-1 (Kidney Injury Molecule) in patients urine indicating kidney function protection? 2. Does N-Acetylcysteine lower the level of creatinine in patients blood indicating kidney function protection? Participants will: 1. The full summary is on the listing.

N-Acetylcysteine in the Management of Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis

  • Phase 1 and 2
  • Tanta University
  • About 60 people
  • Starts Sep 10, 2026 (estimated)

In plain words A Phase 1 and 2 study of NAC in people 18 to 65, run by Tanta University. It plans to enroll about 60 people and lists no sites yet.

Who it lists and where

Who the trial lists, as registered

Lists people 18 to 65. Conditions: SBP - Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis.

What it tests, as registered

Placebo; NAC

Registered summary

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is one of the most serious infectious complications of liver cirrhosis and ascites. It affects approximately 10-30% of hospitalized patients with decompensated cirrhosis and carries an in-hospital mortality of 20-40% despite appropriate antimicrobial therapy. SBP results from bacterial translocation across the intestinal mucosa together with cirrhosis-associated immune dysfunction, leading to impaired bacterial clearance and exaggerated systemic inflammation. Registered summary

Biliary atresia (BA) is a neonatal liver disease characterized by impaired bile flow and is the most common indication for pediatric liver transplantation. BA can be treated with the Kasai portoenterostomy (KP), a procedure that attempts to restore bile flow and slow disease progression. However, success of the KP procedure is quite variable, and lack of adjuvant medical therapies following KP is a major gap in pediatric hepatology. This study begins to explore oral N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as a potential medical therapy in BA by determining whether an oral formulation can be given to infants. The full summary is on the listing.
