3 registrations that name cocoa flavanols as a study arm and are recruiting or about to, as ClinicalTrials.gov listed them on Oct 20, 2026. Read each listing for its full criteria and current status.
Kymata never assesses eligibility. Each listing names its own criteria; only its study team can say whether someone can join. Trial doses are given under the trial's monitoring and are not a schedule for anyone outside it.

The COCOA-PAD II Trial
Phase 3
Northwestern University
About 190 people
Started Nov 19, 2021
In plain words A Phase 3 study of cocoa flavanols in people 55 and older, run by Northwestern University. It plans to enroll about 190 people at 3 US sites.
Who it lists and where
Who the trial lists, as registered
Lists people 55 and older. Conditions: Peripheral Artery Disease.
Age 55 and older
Presence of peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD will be defined as either:
An ABI <= 0.90 at baseline.
Vascular lab evidence of PAD (such as a toe brachial pressure < 0.70 or an ankle brachial index less than or equal to 0.90), or angiographic evidence of PAD defined as at least 70% stenosis of an artery supplying the lower extremities.
1 more inclusion criterion and the exclusion criteria are on the listing.
What it tests, as registered
cocoa flavanols; placebo
Registered summary
Among people with peripheral artery disease (PAD) age 55 and older, the investigators will test the hypothesis that PAD participants randomized to cocoa flavanols will have greater improvement or less decline in six-minute walk distance at six-month follow-up, compared to those randomized to placebo. The study will randomize 190 participants with PAD age 55 and older to one of two groups for six months: cocoa flavanols vs placebo. Our primary outcome is change in six-minute walk distance at six-month follow-up. The full summary is on the listing.

Who it lists and where
Who the trial lists, as registered
Lists people 60 and older. Conditions: Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD); Myosteatosis; Mitochondrial Dysfunction; Muscle Function; Muscle Mass.
not intended to initiate renal replacement therapy treatment in the next 4 months according to nephrologist clinical judgment

What it tests, as registered
Epicatechin extract
Registered summary
Some foods have components that can prevent and treat some diseases and provide beneficial effects for health. These components naturally occurring in foods are called nutraceuticals. Recently, it was found that Epicatechin, which is a kind of nutraceutical from the Catechin's family naturally occurring in green tea and cocoa, has positive effects on muscle mass and strength of people with chronic diseases. People with chronic kidney disease often present muscle loss and lack of strength that are not easily treated with regular diet and physical activity. The full summary is on the listing.

Cocoa Flavanol Supplement; Low-Flavanol Control Powder
Registered summary
This randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial will evaluate the effects of daily cocoa flavanol supplementation on vascular and inflammatory biomarkers in healthy adult men aged 30 to 75 years. Participants will be randomized to receive either a cocoa flavanol supplement or a nutrient-matched low-flavanol control product for 4 to 8 weeks. The study will assess changes in inflammatory biomarkers, endothelial function, oxidative stress markers, vascular measurements, and circulating endothelial progenitor cell-related markers. The full summary is on the listing.
