Neurovascular Transduction During Exercise in Chronic Kidney Disease

  • Phase 2
  • Emory University
  • About 150 people
  • Started Oct 2016

In plain words A Phase 2 study of L-Alanine in people 18 to 75, run by Emory University. It plans to enroll about 150 people at 3 US sites.

Who it lists and where

Who the trial lists, as registered

Lists people 18 to 75. Conditions: Renal Insufficiency, Chronic.

  • Stage III or IV Chronic Kidney Disease, defined as reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) to 15-59 cc/minute as calculated by the modified Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation or the Chronic Kidney…
  • Stable renal function, with no greater than a 30% reduction in eGFR over the prior 3 months
  • Does not exercise regularly (defined as exercising less than 20 minutes twice per week)
  • Willing and able to cooperate with the study protocol

2 more inclusion criteria and the exclusion criteria are on the listing.

What it tests, as registered

6R-BH4; 6R-BH4 placebo; Folic acid; Exercise training; Stretching; Histidine and beta-alanine supplementation; Histidine and beta-alanine placebo

Registered summary

The purpose of this study is to find out why patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have poor exercise capacity and to explore what causes an increase in blood pressure during exercise (i.e. increased adrenaline levels, or decreased ability of blood vessels to dilate). This study will also test whether or not regular exercise on a bicycle and/or treatment with 6R-BH4 (Kuvan) pills, or histidine and beta-alanine supplementation improves these measures during exercise. The full summary is on the listing.

Neoadjuvant Radiation in Locally Advanced Breast Cancer

  • Phase 2
  • Fudan University
  • About 70 people
  • Started Mar 1, 2021

In plain words A Phase 2 study of L-Alanine in female participants 18 to 70, run by Fudan University. It plans to enroll about 70 people at 1 site, none in the US.

Who it lists and where

Who the trial lists, as registered

Lists female participants 18 to 70. Conditions: Breast Neoplasms.

  • Histologically or cytologically confirmed locally advanced breast carcinoma
  • Inoperable with with 4-6 courses of prior chemotherapy
  • No contradiction of radiation or chemo-radiotherapy
  • Patients should have the ability to understand and the willingness to sign a written informed consent document

1 more inclusion criterion and the exclusion criteria are on the listing.

What it tests, as registered

Neoadjuvant radiotherapy; β-alanine; Spatially fractionated radiotherapy

Registered summary

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant radiation therapy in improving local-regional control and facilitating surgical conversion in patients with inoperable locally advanced breast cancer after 2-6 courses of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. This study will also investigate whether beta-alanine supplementation and spatially fractionated radiotherapy can enhance the therapeutic response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. The full summary is on the listing.

  • About 15 people
  • Starts Jan 20, 2026 (estimated)

In plain words A study of L-Alanine in people 25 to 70, run by Nicolai Jacob Wewer Albrechtsen. It plans to enroll about 15 people at 1 site, none in the US.

Who it lists and where

Who the trial lists, as registered

Lists people 25 to 70; healthy volunteers accepted. Conditions: Glucose Metabolism; Glucagon.

  • Capable of understanding the participant information and signing the consent form
  • Between 25 and 70 years of age at the time of screening
  • Body mass index (BMI) ≤ 25 kg/m2 at the time of screening

The exclusion criteria are on the listing.

What it tests, as registered

alanine

Registered summary

In this study the investigators will investigate the acute effects of increasing alanine exposure on metabolic parameters in healthy participants. Participants will participate in one study day. After initial baseline blood samples, a three-hour intravenous infusion with glucagon will be initiated. The infusion rate will be increased every 30 minutes.
